Nature's Wonder

“Butterflies…flowers that fly and all but sing.”-Robert Frost

Butterflies are loved for their vibrant colours. They represent new beginnings and show that change can be beautiful. How do butterflies benefit from these striking, flamboyant colours?
  • As a defence against predators. Some butterflies like the Owl butterfly have large eyespots on their wings to make predators believe that they have come face to face with a much larger creature.
  • Bold colours like red or orange send out a stark warning to predators. Some moths and butterflies consume poisonous plants in order to ward off predators.
  • Fluttering, colourful and large wings make them attractive to a prospective mate.
Hence, colours on a butterfly are not just stunning visuals. They serve a higher purpose in their fight for survival.

 A tryst with nature. #butterflyworld

    1. Thanks Satabdi. Yes, i was thinking the same but a common use of bold colours is to avoid the hungry predators.
