Boat Orchid

"The orchid's allure is in its subtlety."

The Boat Orchid, scientifically known as Cymbidium is a beautiful and widely popular orchid species. It is native to Asia, Australia and surrounding regions.

Boat orchids derive their name from the shape of their flowers which are boat-shaped and can be up to 10 cm long. These flowers come in a range of colours including white, pink, yellow and green with some species having patterned petals or spots. The plant's leaves are long and thin and the entire plant can grow 1.5 meters high.

One of the reasons for the Boat Orchid to be popular is that it is a relatively easy plant to care for. It thrives in bright, indirect light and prefers to be kept in a well-draining soil mix. Regular watering is required but it is important not to let the plant sit in standing water as this can cause root rot. During the growing season, fertilizer can be added to promote healthy growth.

They can be grown as houseplants, in pots or even in outdoor gardens.

In addition to their aesthetic appeal, they have medicinal properties to treat various ailments such as coughs and sore throats.

  1. Such a beautiful flower. We have an abundance of these right outside our house in the common areas of the neighborhood. I didn't know about it even then. Thanks for the trivia.
