Greater Swamp-Orchid

"The orchid is Mother Nature's masterpiece."

The Greater Swamp-Orchid, scientifically known as Phaius grandifolius is a stunning flowering plant that is native to Southeast Asia and parts of Oceania. It is well known for its large and showy flowers that bloom during the spring and summer months.

One of the most remarkable features of the Greater Swamp-Orchid is its ability to thrive in wet and swampy environments. It can grow in standing waters or in very moist soil making it an ideal choice for gardeners looking to add some color to their water gardens or bog areas.

The flowers of the Greater Swamp-Orchid are usually pale pink or white with distinctive bright yellow or orange colouration. Each flower can grow up to six inches in diameter and is made up of several petals that curl back to create a graceful appearance.

In addition to being a popular choice for ornamental gardens, the Greater Swamp-Orchid is also used in traditional medicine in some parts of South East Asia. The roots and leaves of the plant are said to have medicinal properties that can help treat a variety of ailments including fever, diarrhea and coughs.

The Greater Swamp-Orchid is a beautiful and versatile plant that is listed as endangered due to trampling by stock, weeds and drainage of its habitat.
